September Onside Rugby Club Spotlight - Hamilton RFC

We recently had the pleasure of catching up with Hamilton Bulls Rugby Development Officer, Steven Meenagh. Steven and Hamilton Bulls have been doing some great things recently and we wanted to use this opportunity to highlight them.

Club Name: Hamilton Bulls

Year Founded: 1921

Hamilton Rugby Club are based in South Lanarkshire.

More than just a rugby club, the Bulls put on annual events such as the Bulls Beer Festival, Fireworks night and the Bulls Big Weekend where we see over 700 players from P1 to seniors playing rugby.

We currently offer rugby for Primary 1 children all the way through to U18, both boys & girls. Along with this, we run senior men and women team's. This coincides with our 'try something new' campaign, encouraging new players of all ages and abilities to come along to the Bulls to try something new. A list of all of our teams are below:

P1 – P7

U13 – U18 Boys

U12 – U18 Girls

Senior Men

Senior Women

Our Volunteers are the reason our club exists and the reason we can support and run so many fantastic projects.

We reward our volunteers with kit and events through out the year (6 nations coaches day hospitality)

At Hamilton we are always looking to grow and expand what we offer to our members.

We currently run a bulls playing academy for U15 – U18 players. Supporting players rugby skills and introducing them to strength and conditioning as well as nutrition.

We have our own coaching hub for Hamilton coaches to share and discuss sessions, where they have access to games and activities to continue their own development.

We run a young coach academy that supports 16 – 18 year olds to develop their coaching skills. Linking with Scottish Rugby we are able to offer our young coaches a wide range of courses and support. The programme will help develop them for college and university while supporting club delivery to our minis.

We deliver a primary school programme to P1 – P7 pupils for all schools in the Hamilton Community. P5 and P7 are able to attend festivals as well.

We believe in building a rugby culture in Hamilton and to achieve this we support schoolteachers in gaining the knowledge needed for delivering rugby on their own.

Our school programme is also offered out to Secondary schools. Helping them with curricular rugby, CPD and after school sessions and games.

We are part of the Hamilton Sports Hub working with South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture. The sports Hub allows us to link with other sports creating a community that supports one another.

Hamilton Rugby Club is special because of its members from P1 to retired players. Everyone wants to support the club to grow and continue to support its members and the community. We firmly have family and community at the centre of everything we do.
