May Onside Rugby Club Spotlight

Updated: Jun 1, 2021

This club has made it clear to see from our involvement with them about what’s important to them - their members, their friends and their community.

Read below to hear more about this wonderful club after we caught up with Club President, Iain Norrie.

Loch Lomond Rugby Football Club Founded: 1996

The club was founded by the merger of Dunbarton RFC & Vale of Leven RFC. Both clubs together meant they were able to secure a long term lease on our current facilities which allowed them to have their own clubhouse and training facilities for the first time. 76 players were used in the combined 1st XV in their inaugural season.

We cater for children from Primary 1 to Seniors, we have a strong mini and midi group as well as under 13, 14, 16 and our senior side. We hope to resurrect a social side that will allow some under 18's game time before transitioning to senior rugby.

Volunteers are not just the heartbeat of our club but of rugby in general. We have a group of dedicated individuals and families who support the club, whether it's coaching minis, providing after match snacks or working behind the bar after seniors games. We couldn't and more importantly wouldn’t want to do this without them.

Having seen the success of Onside Rugby camps I approached the guys to host our summer camp. Allowing our coaches an extended break & allowing the kids to experience different coaches whilst mixing with players from other clubs attending.

We’ve been fortunate through lockdown that our members have continued to support us. As a thank you for this support, we’re subsidising a place at the camp for every Loch Lomond member who attends. I see this as investing in our players and the clubs future.

We have a partnership with the Scottish Rugby and West Dunbartonshire Council for a Rugby Development role. Whilst currently vacant it delivers rugby throughout Alexandria and Dumbarton, running festivals and offering after-school clubs.

We’re a family orientated club and are open to anyone that wants to support, play rugby or even help behind the scenes. You can contact us via either Facebook or Instagram.
